Came for a late night churashi bowl and could not believe how high quality it was. They did not skimp out on the good stuff, as you can see. They gave 3 different pieces of bluefin, each with a different fat content. Their otoro was easily the best I've had. Their rice was perfectly seasoned, and the pickled vegetables and marinated beef made every bite perfect. I took it to go but I got a look at the interior and it was very cool and intimate. It had a traditional Japanese style. My only complaint was that I had to wait much longer than they had initially told me for the bowl.

Our favorite sushi place in LA! We come here a lot! The lunch special is the best deal in town! But dinner prices aren't bad either. Parking can be tough in little Tokyo and this is also near arts district. You can park in the lot for a fee or try to find street parking. We always get the sushi deluxe which comes with a miso soup. Worth the 30 minute or longer wait!

Ambiance: looks small from the outside but once you're inside it's a very cozy and warm environment that for some reason reminded me of inside a wooden cabin Service: warm welcome from the waitress who was always quick to refill our hot tea and make sure we got everything we needed Food: very well worth the price for the sashimi lunch which comes with (I think) housemade tofu, miso soup, a big bowl of rice, and pickles. The sashimi is more true to Japan where it does not have salmon sashimi, and includes high quality tuna. I find myself satisfied with the lunch in terms of fullness and the fish was very fresh and delicious. The texture is great with the slices of fish not too thick or thin. I was pleasantly surprised with the cooked items also! It's been a few days since I've had the lunch but I find myself craving it constantly. Overall, I understand why the long line because you're getting high quality, fair quantity for a reasonable price.

The secret to dining here and avoiding a long wait is to get here before opening. Even on a weekday, sushi gen has a line out the door for its fresh, quality fish. i love the assortment in the sashimi plate and chirashi, and the best part is that once you're seated, your food is served to you so quickly. parking is expensive, but at least there is a convenient lot to park in. This is a spot I've been visiting for years, and I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in DTLA.

There's little to no wait time if you come on a weekday - I had to wait like 5 minutes on a Wednesday. The server was very attentive and the sashimi was amazing. The toro and spicy tuna mixed with masago were my favs. The interior is a bit busy and has a more casual interior. There's parking in the plaza and on the streets although you may have to hunt for it.

Ordered: - Sashimi Lunch (5/5): Good cuts for the price, but my girlfriend was hoping for salmon sashimi. Overall super worth it though and we'd still go back just for this. - Deluxe Chirashi (3.5/5): While the ingredients were pretty premium, you're basically paying for the variety. I also think it could have offered more for the price, because I don't think I would have been filled if I was pretty hungry. I was a big fan of the toro and the ikura though! Overall (4/5): We came on a Friday at around noon and the wait was about 45 minutes. The interior was pretty old, and it was pretty noisy inside. Still, the service was efficient and the food came quickly. We're glad to see a classic sushi spot like this continue to serve quality sushi in LT!

The sashimi lunch was really fresh~ Loved all of the items but my favourites were the tuna and the negitoro. Salmon teriyaki was huge and the teriyaki sauce was great - not too sweet with the right consistency. The wait was long for lunch but service was quick.

Consistently delivering great variety of delicious fresh fish with chefs that know their stuff. They are efficient and precise but not the warmest, and that's okay! You can tell they give special treatments to regulars and bend bar lunch rules - but that's kinda endearing I think. If you're here for the sushi, come in during lunch and sit by the bar.. you're gonna be in and out :) (lunch specials omitted though). Sushi Gen does not make my top 5 sushi places but is a clear runner up with top ranks. It's in the fish!

My first black badge Yelp elite review goes to, drumroll, Sushi Gen! All is right in the world when you're sitting at a traditional and cozy sushi bar. It's a happy spot for me. The beer + great sushi + the camaraderie around the bar = happy spirits and a magical time. This was that for me at this LA institution in Little Tokyo. Good service behind the host stand and behind the sushi bar. And a great buzz amongst patrons around the bar. A perfect little spot after a matinee at the Music Center!
